Lack of Rainfall

The lack of rainfall in recent months has raised once again the voice of alert to the dreaded drought in Madrid. Madrid?s Community is no stranger to this national problem, since the data of water in the dams or reservoirs warn problems in short or medium term effects if the weather doesn?t help it or remedy it.

The Community of Madrid has experienced in the last 20 Years, a considerable increase in population (about 20%), which inevitably has also increased the Water consumption.

What is clear is to think that this problem is going to be presented to us with some constancy (remembering that the cyclical droughts are a feature of the Mediterranean climate), and we cannot expect more than an aggravation to this problems if the climate expectations are completed and Spain tends to a slow desertification.

For the reasons before, the problem of water in Madrid has two analyses today: the one of preserving water to supply it in a year of drought as in 2004, and to look forward on the long term plans for the intelligent use of water and prevention of future problems.
